What is The Urantia Book? This is a question which most Urantia Book students meet with mixed feelings of dread and excitement.

Why dread? Because The Urantia Book is an incredibly rich and complex tapestry which weaves the threads of cosmology, religion, spirituality, science, history, and philosophy into one breathtaking uber-perspective.

Why excitement? Because The Urantia Book is an incredibly rich and complex tapestry which weaves the threads of cosmology, religion, spirituality, science, history, and philosophy into one breathtaking uber-perspective!

The Urantia BookYes, a little bit tongue in cheek perhaps, but the dread stems from that fact that it is so complex. How can you describe a whole tapestry by talking about only one or two threads? It is almost impossible to communicate exactly what The Urantia Book is while engaged in a superficial conversation. Where do you start? Because everything is interwoven, how do you begin to describe one bit without having to describe everything else?

The excitement stems from that fact that there is something that is able to make sense of our reality and mould it in to one complete picture! How could you not want to read that!? How could you not want to sit and talk about it for days on end!?

Students often come up with clever and descriptive nicknames. I like to call it The Big Blue Book of Big Answers to ALL of the Big Questions. But that’s hardly a description, it just leads to more questions!

So, here at Perth UBSG, we thought that if it takes more than a passing conversation to describe The Urantia Book, perhaps there might be a better way; perhaps a webcast! Peter and I had recently been invited to speak on a local talk radio program, and we decided to use our notes to make a series of webcasts not only to describe the Book, but also to seize the opportunity to dig more deeply into some of its main themes.
